Working Together

A good working relationship can make all the difference to the success of a research project.

Before undertaking an assignment, I will need to know
  • what you are aiming to find out
  • what you already know, distinguishing between facts supported by evidence, and family stories or hearsay
  • details of any previous research carried out by you or on your behalf.

Before starting the research, I will send you a proposal outlining
  • the likely chances of success
  • the sources I propose to look at
  • what might be found
  • the likely cost
  • an expected time-frame for the research.

Whilst researching, I will
  • update you regularly with my progress
  • advise you if there are unexpected problems or delays
  • warn you of any significant increase in out-of-pocket expenses

When the research is complete, I will
  • prepare a comprehensive Research Report listing all sources consulted
  • draw up a family tree (if appropriate)
  • supply originals of any civil registration certificates
  • supply digital photographs, scans or photocopies of appropriate documents
  • indicate whether further research is likely to be fruitful.

I undertake all client research in person, except where it may be more economical to ask a record office to supply a specific piece of information or copy a document.

As a Member of AGRA, the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives, I am bound by its Code of Practice.

I am registered with the Information Commissioner under the terms of the General Data Protection Act. I will always keep your information confidential and will not pass research data to any third party without your permission.
